The world has become accustomed to talking about sustainability as a trend. But when war disrupts the familiar rhythm of life, it becomes clear that sustainability is not just a slogan, but the ability to act when the ground beneath our feet is shaking.
Today, in the midst of a full-scale war, for Ukrainian businesses this is not an option, but a genuine discipline of survival and the key to the future. It is about economic efficiency and the environment, but above all — about responsibility towards people and an extraordinary ability to adapt instantly.
At AC-Step, we have never viewed sustainability as a buzzword. For us, it means something simple yet profound — a responsibility to those we work with and to those who walk in shoes with our soles every day. When uncertainty surrounds us, we continue to do what we do best: create a high-quality product and build trust step by step.
A manufacturing sector learning to be flexible
Full-scale war has forced every Ukrainian company to rethink its processes. Many brands have repurposed their production to meet the needs of the military and civilians: from tactical footwear and flat-soled shoes to balaclavas and thermal underwear. Some have introduced 3D printing of their own soles, whilst others resumed operations just a week after the invasion, having received an order for sandals for a special occasion — a symbol that life goes on.
Most manufacturers, like us, have taken on not only a production mission but also a social one — to support the army, to help displaced people, women and the families of workers who have stood up to defend the country. And we do this not for publicity, but because it is the right thing to do.
One of our company’s responses to the demands of the times — and a symbol of our flexibility — was the rapid development of sole designs for tactical footwear, for both men’s and women’s ranges. For these designs, durability, grip and resilience in challenging conditions were critical, but appearance also mattered.
For us, these challenges meant becoming not just a manufacturer, but a system capable of adapting quickly. Flexibility and redundancy have become our key principles: we store part of our production in our main warehouses, and the rest at backup sites in various regions. This allows us to operate without disruption even under extreme conditions.
Technologies that support sustainability
Resilience is not just a strategy, but also the technological capability to act. We are implementing 3D modelling of soles, automating production, recycling rubber and using secondary raw materials. This is not just environmentally friendly, it is efficient: less waste, lower costs, greater precision and durability.
Modern logistics and raw material stocks create a ‘safety net’ that allows us to continue operating even during crises. And additional off-grid equipment – generators and solar panels – enable us to maintain production levels when the power goes out.
Minimising risks for customers
Disrupted supply chains and power cuts are causing customers concern. We address these risks with concrete actions: we distribute stock across several warehouses and maintain open communication.
The reliability of working with AC-Step is not just a promise, but a system proven through crises. By working with a Ukrainian manufacturer, customers simultaneously support the economy, jobs and that invisible network of mutual trust upon which the country relies.
A vision for the future and our social mission
The company’s strength lies not only in its equipment, but first and foremost in its people. AC-Step is establishing partnerships with employment centres for internally displaced persons and veterans, giving them the opportunity to return to work, a sense of routine and self-confidence. We strive to be consistent — a company that grows even when storms rage around us.
Today, AC-Step is actively entering new markets – Turkey, Italy and Germany – demonstrating that a Ukrainian manufacturer is capable of competing on the basis of quality and reliability.
Sustainable manufacturing, the Ukrainian way, is not just about reducing our carbon footprint. Right now, it’s about national resilience: the ability to live, work, create and prevail in the face of constant external pressure.
Everything we do today is not just about AC-Step. It’s about Ukrainian industry, which refuses to give up. It’s about partners who believe in our shared cause. It’s about customers who value not just the product, but also the way it is made. Everyone who chooses a Ukrainian manufacturer is investing in this unbreakable resilience. Because even in times of uncertainty, there are things that stand firm. And AC-Step soles are just one of them.
