Polyurethane sole and its properties

Polyurethane is a synthetic polymer made from crude oil. The polyurethane sole has a porous structure and is produced by mixing several components. PU sole has a number of advantages:

  • Elasticity - high resistance to bending and compression. The product does not crack or deform for a long time.
  • Lightweight - the polyurethane sole is light with good cushioning properties, ensuring comfort during wear.
  • High porosity with low density endows polyurethane with excellent thermal insulation - an important factor in choosing demi-season and winter footwear.
  • It is also worth buying a polyurethane sole if one of the main criteria is the long-term use of polyurethane. This is due to the excellent wear resistance of the material.
  • Eco-friendliness - ready-made polyurethane soles do not release harmful substances into the environment, and the materials that have been used can be recycled.

AС-Step company uses polyurethane of the following types:

  • Summer - a type of hard polyurethane. It is used for soles with high heels and wedges.
  • Winter - soft. This type of PU is used for making boots, winter shoes, and half-boots.
  • Wedge polyurethane - lighter and stiffer than summer. It is used for creating thinner and more elegant heels and wedges.

In consideration of the main properties of the material - reliability in use, durability, and longevity, polyurethane is used for:

  • Sportswear: the lightweight and wear-resistant material is ideal for producing sneakers and trainers. Polyurethane also proves to be an indispensable material when creating soles with complex designs and large thicknesses.
  • Everyday shoes: the main qualities here are comfort, long service life, eco-friendliness, and aesthetics. Shoes, boots, and sandals with polyurethane soles will last a long time, retaining their original appearance.
  • Workwear: polyurethane soles, with their relatively low material density and small mass, have high strength characteristics, low electrical conductivity, resistance to repeated bending, wear resistance, and attach well to leather uppers.
  • Indoor footwear: slippers and flip-flops with PU soles, lightweight and flexible, are comfortable for everyday wear.

On the AC-Step website, you can choose and buy polyurethane soles for:

  • Summer and demi-season shoes. We manufacture polyurethane soles for sandals and mules, open-toe shoes and ballet flats, sneakers and sports shoes, loafers and boots.
  • Winter shoes. Thanks to our unique manufacturing technology, AC-Step offers PU soles for winter footwear - boots and half-boots. The products are lightweight, durable, and excellent at retaining heat.

Production of polyurethane soles is carried out in 9 stages:

  1. Components for PU are heated in closed vessels at a temperature of 80 degrees.
  2. After heating, the raw materials are allowed to cool to 45-50 degrees, catalysts are added to promote quick start and hardness, and the mixture is stirred.
  3. After loading into the hoppers of the casting machine, all components for PU are mixed.
  4. If necessary, decorative elements such as moldings, welts, supporting inserts, and supinators are installed in the mold before pouring.
  5. The liquid polyurethane mixture is poured into the preheated mold, the mold is closed, and it is kept for a strictly defined time, depending on the seasonality of the sole.
  6. After the set time, the polyurethane sole is removed from the mold.
  7. After trimming the flash, the polyurethane sole is left to shrink.
  8. The product is degreased in a brief washing process.
  9. After degreasing, the polyurethane sole is primed, colored, coated with clear lacquer, or waxed.
